Why you really don’t know that you are lucky or unlucky?

Hey guys, glad you are back here. Based on my previous blog, We will conclude why you really don’t know that you are lucky or unlucky?

If you haven’t forgotten, my last blog had 4 short motivational stories. Each gave some message at the end of the story but the last one, which was my favorite had a moral which was left to understand for you guys. I also said I will write the whole blog about that moral in the next blog. So, here we are but if you are unaware about my last blog don’t worry I have repeated that story here. However, if you want to read those amazing other 3 short stories, here you go: 4 Short Motivational Stories Everyone Should Read

We’ll See.

A farmer had only one horse. One day, his horse ran away.

His neighbors said, “I’m so sorry. This is such bad news. You must be so upset.”

The man just said, “We’ll see.”

A few days later, his horse came back with twenty wild horses following. The man and his son corralled all 21 horses.

His neighbors said, “Congratulations! This is such good news. You must be so happy!”

The man just said, “We’ll see.”

One of the wild horses kicked the man’s only son, breaking both his legs.
His neighbors said, “I’m so sorry. This is such bad news. You must be so upset.”

The man just said, “We’ll see.”

The country went to war, and every able-bodied young man was drafted to fight. The war was terrible and killed every young man, but the farmer’s son was spared since his broken legs prevented him from being drafted.

His neighbors said, “Congratulations! This is such good news. You must be so happy!”

The man just said, “We’ll see.”

Moral of the story?

Let’s observe the moral in detail;

What is luck?

I don’t know the mass believed meaning of luck but here is what Google says ” Success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one’s own actions.” It clearly means that it is far from the reach of your efforts. Luck is some factor which is not in your hands. Okay, I am assuming you got this. Let’s move a little further.

 What is Lucky or Unlucky?

Now our definition of being lucky or fortunate is in a simple way when things/results/odds go our way. However, we are missing a factor here, it is time! Now when you feel being unlucky or unfortunate, it is when results don’t go your way but those results are based on your present expectation of the result. Confused? Let’s take another famous story as an example;

The Expectation of a result

Years ago in Scotland, the Clark family had a dream. Clark and his wife worked and saved, making plans for their nine children and themselves to travel to the US. It had taken years, but they had finally saved enough money and had gotten passports and reservations for the whole family on a new liner to the US.

The entire family was filled with anticipation and excitement about their new life.

The result doesn’t go your way; Unlucky

7 days before their departure, the youngest son was bitten by a dog. The doctor sewed up the little boy but hung a yellow sheet on the Clarks’ front door. Because of the possibility of rabies, they were being quarantined for 14 days.

The family’s dreams were dashed. They would not be able to make the trip to America as they had planned. The father, filled with disappointment and anger, stomped to the dock to watch the ship leave–without the Clark family. The father shed tears of disappointment and cursed both his son and God for their misfortune.

But only for the present!

Five days later, the tragic news spread throughout Scotland–the mighty “Titanic” had sunk. The unsinkable ship had sunk, taking hundreds of lives with it. The Clark family was to have been on that ship, but because the son had been bitten by a dog, they were left behind in Scotland.

When Mr. Clark heard the news, he hugged his son and thanked him for saving the family. He thanked God for saving their lives and turning what he had felt a tragedy into a blessing.

Moral: You literally don’t know that you are lucky or unlucky! Numerous time we curse so much to our misfortune but everything affects everything and that misfortune at that time might tinker your fortune on later stages of your life! (or not)

Lucky or Unlucky

Your misfortune in the past may trigger fortune in future

The important thing is that we really don’t know that a result which rolled out is our fortune or misfortune. So what should we do?

Just accept the result as it is and say ” We will see” 🙂
